5 Ways to Show Your Parents You Love Them
Family reunion quotes are not only great opportunities for catching up with loved ones, but your parents can give you the inspiration for showing them you love them. In this article, you’ll find five great quotes about family and parenting that can help you inspire others by realizing what makes your life worth the fuss.
Tell them.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s really important to tell your parents that you love them and appreciate all they do for you. Saying “I love you” does not have to be a big production or an elaborate gesture, it can just be saying those three words out loud to show how much you care about them and their role in your life.
If you are too busy with school, sports, friends and other activities (and let’s face it, you probably are), the last thing on your mind might be calling home just to say hello or tell Mom how much she means to you.
It might seem like an inconvenience at first glance because there are so many things going on in our lives these days: work commitments, social events, and family obligations make it hard sometimes even for parents themselves to keep up with everything going on around them.
But despite all this hustle-bustle of daily life involving multiple responsibilities we can always find time for our loved ones; so why not start off by putting the phone down once in awhile?
Make some time each day–even if only five minutes–to check in with someone important in your life who would appreciate hearing from YOU.
Visit them.
In addition to visiting your parents, there are many other ways to show them that you love them.
Make time in your schedule for a visit. If you live far away from your parents and can’t afford a plane ticket, use Skype or FaceTime (or whatever video calling service they have) as often as possible.
Ask them where they would like to go on their next trip with you. Maybe they would like to take an exotic vacation somewhere tropical or maybe they just want to enjoy a day at home with their favorite food and movie. Whatever it is, make sure that it’s something that both of you will enjoy together.
Tell stories about yourself. Do something funny or interesting today?
It might be something small but it could still make mom laugh out loud when she hears it from her daughter. Or maybe there’s been some drama at work…she might have some great advice for how we should handle the situation better next time around.
Offer to help.
One of the best ways to show your parents that you care is to help them out. You can make their lives easier by offering to do tasks around the house, like taking out the trash or vacuuming. If they’re involved in a hobby like gardening, offer to help plant some flowers or harvest vegetables.
This can also be an opportunity for you and your parents to spend time together, learning new skills as well as spending quality time with each other.
Spend time with them.
You can do this in a variety of ways. Take your parents to a movie or out to dinner at their favorite restaurant, or go to church with them.
If you’re close enough and it’s feasible for the two of you, take them on a trip together. If not, spend time at home with them and just talk about what’s going on in your life, your job, your significant other (if applicable), etc.
Listen to them.
Listen to them. When your parents are talking, try hard not to interrupt and listen intently. Sometimes parents just want to talk about their day, but we often don’t give them the time they need and instead focus on what’s going on with us. Show that you care by taking time out of your day to hear what they have to say.
When they finish speaking, ask questions or make comments (if appropriate) that show you’re interested in what they’ve said instead of quickly changing the subject back onto yourself.
A relationship is a two way street and being there for your parents can help them and yourself.
Show them you care. One of the best ways to show your parents that you love them is by reaching out and letting them know how much they mean to you.
If they are having a rough day, send a text or call asking how things are going and if there is anything specific that would make their day better. Even just sending a text saying “I love you” can go a long way in showing parent’s that they are appreciated.
Think of ways to help around the house without being asked. It may seem like an obvious thing, but parents often have more on their plate than we realize so having someone else around who can pitch in will really make a difference.
That doesn’t mean taking over everything though – just doing small things like helping out with dishes or vacuuming every once in awhile goes a long way toward making mom’s work day easier (and less stressful).
